Working remotely a day or two a week has its benefits – for both the employer and employees. A recent study demonstrated that working away increased employee productivity by 13.5 percent, and saved the employer $1,900 per employee over the course of the study on office space. People working from home also needed shorter breaks, fewer sick days and took less time off.
Employees who work remote a few days a week save time and money on transportation, have higher job satisfaction and feel more productive. It allows for a change of environment, which increases creativity, and employees are able to focus better without office chatter (like your favorite products at the new Costco – #guilty).
At P&G, employees have the flexibility to work remote (or work away, as our Slack channel is called!), as their schedule allows. Here are some of our favorite – and maybe not so common –places to work away:
- From the comfort of your own home: There is nothing quite like working in your pajamas once in while!
- MSU Library: We love to work away at the MSU Library because of the individual cubical space, quiet environment and sweet views of Spartan territory.
- Sparrow Hospital cafeteria: This hidden gem has great Wi-Fi and a variety of options to grab a bite to eat.
- Capital Area District Libraries’ Downtown Lansing branch: The recently remodeled Capital Area District Library is wonderfully quiet, centrally located and has plenty of tables, power outlets and books to peruse when inspiration is needed.
- Blue Owl Coffee: Need a bustling settling to spark your creativity? Blue Owl Coffee is the place – and there is no shortage of coffee.
