It’s student strategist hiring season at Piper & Gold, which means we’re gearing up for career fairs, sorting through applications and lots of interviews. As we begin the search for our next student strategist, we’ve compiled a quick list of qualities that we view as “must-haves” for our students. Whether you’re scoping out P&G or another organization in town, make sure you’ve got these traits on lock before applying.
Experience and skill
First things first, we always take a look at an applicant’s previous experience and skills to ensure they’re a good fit to do high-quality work. Not only should you include any relevant experience on your resume, but you should be able to articulate why that’s valuable to P&G and our clients. Writing and AP Style are our bread and butter, so be prepared to show us those skills.
Organization and resourcefulness
Agency life can be crazy. When you’re juggling multiple projects for a variety of clients, staying organized is your key to success. We provide tools like Basecamp, Slack and Google Calendar to help, but it’s important to have your own individual process for staying on track.
We also encourage our student strategists to be resourceful when it comes to problems, meaning you’re able to think on your feet and come up with solutions as the need arises.
Taking initiative
At P&G, we tend to let our student strategists dive right in. We’re looking for a team player -- someone who can take the initiative to find answers and introduce ideas that we might not have thought about before.
A love for Lansing
We #lovelansing, and we want our student strategists to love it here, too. It’s always a plus when an applicant talks about their love for the community and how they’re involved. If you’re not familiar with the area -- and that’s okay -- tell us what parts of Lansing you’re most eager to explore during your time here.
Passion
We choose to do the work we do because we believe in each and every nonprofit, government agency and small business we serve. We are passionate about doing big work in a small community, and using our skills to make an impact -- and we like our student strategists to share those same passions with us.
Think you’d be a good fit for our student strategist position? Applications are due February 17. Apply here.
