It’s hard to know where to start when writing a 300 word blog post that sums up your entire company.
When I naively started this wild ride that is entrepreneurship more than four years ago, I couldn’t predict where it would lead. But more so, I couldn’t predict what small business ownership would feel like.
Owning and managing a small business is exhausting, exhilarating, all-consuming, personal, rewarding and terribly difficult all at the same time. I always thought myself too risk-averse, too desiring of stability and structure, to successfully launch a company. It turns out an aversion to risk and an affinity for stability and structure can help you build a pretty solid small business.
But I wanted more. Entrepreneurship is too hard to “just” go to your company and work every day. It takes too much from you, and if there’s not something giving back, feeding your soul, it’s easy to burn out or give up.
So I wanted to build a solid small business, but also one where we could use our unique public relations skills to make an impact in our community. Where we were more than just co-workers, but a tight-knit family that supports one another inside the office and out. Where we could truly effect change on our own lives and the lives of the people around us.
PR is a powerful business – we can influence behaviors, change minds and expose injustices.
That’s why we’re here. Each member of our P&G family wants to use her or his skills to make a difference. To help us do that, we’ve spent the better part of a year developing what we call our #truths – a set of guiding principles that steer our actions within the company and in the community.
And we think they’re the perfect place to start our new blog. Over the next few months, we look forward to sharing with you our #truths, and we look forward to hearing about yours.
